Officials of the Beggars' Rehabilitation Centre here were embarrassed when journalists enquired about Gangadhar Siddhappa Shettar, a resident who is related to Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagadish Shettar.

They failed to provide any information about him, and later admitted to releasing him in breach of rules about the release of people from the rehabilitation centre.

As per rules, residents should be released only after obtaining a written submission from relatives.

Central Relief Committee chairman K.A. Ramalingappa said here on Thursday that action would be taken against officials in this regard.
