Chitradurga: A two-day training session on operating electronic voting machines (EVMs) was held for officials at the Rangamandir here on Saturday.

As many as 210 officials, who will be deployed at various polling stations to oversee the election process, are being trained.

The instruction is being imparted by seven master trainers who were trained at the office of Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) in Bangalore.

“The objective is to train officials on how to handle EVMs during voting. Making them aware of the various parts that constitute the machine and the installation process is our aim,” said tahsildar Srinivasprasanna.

He told presspersons that as BEL did not have the required staff to visit each district , district administrations send some personnel to BEL for training, who in turn would teach other officials.

Mr. Srinivasprasanna said the officials would later train presiding officers of each polling station in the district on the functioning of the machine.

He also said that before the training, the officials were shown a computerised presentation of the machine, its operations and parts.
