Belgaum: The district administration on Tuesday submitted a report to the State Election Commission (SEC) on the role of BJP leaders Suresh C. Angadi, MP, and Sanjay Patil, MLA, in the demonstration staged by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES) members in front of the office premises of the Belgaum City Corporation on the issue of hoisting a saffron flag on Monday.

Official sources told The Hindu that the commission sought a report following media reports on the presence of Mr. Angadi and Mr. Patil at the spot where the demonstration was staged, which led to protests by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike factions. The sources said the report sent to the commission included clippings of newspapers and a VCD on the happenings and statements made by the two leaders. Deputy Commissioner J. Ravishankar submitted it to the commission. However, a notice for violation of the poll code had not been issued and a decision on it would be taken in consultation with the commission.
