Missing files dominated the agenda at the Corporation Council meeting held here on Wednesday.

The issue was brought to the notice of Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa and Corporation Commissioner R. Nanthagopal.

Councillor Kannaki Baskaran of Ward 80 raised the matter and demanded that files be cleared without undue delay. “How can files go missing from the Corporation building? Is it lethargy on the part of messengers and staff or is something else happening?” she wanted to know.

Citing an example, she claimed that a file on the Basic Services to Urban Poor scheme had gone missing for more than six months. “ They could not trace it and a duplicate file has not been prepared as yet,” she said.

Responding to the councillor, the Mayor assured the council that strict action would be taken henceforth if such complaints were received. “It is very bad if the Corporation cannot keep its files safe. Officials should register in a notebook if a file is taken outside for official purposes. Messengers should be careful,” Mr. Chellappa said.

The measures taken to address water scarcity came up next.City Engineer in-charge A. Mathuram said that the Corporation will be fetching water from agricultural borewells with the consent of the owners. Also, places had been identified to sink 400 borewells in all the wards.
