Call to maintain transparency in PDSLook into the shady deals, Food and Civil Supplies department told

Madikeri: Somwarpet MLA B.A. Jivijaya has called upon the officials to make efforts to reach the benefits of Government programmes to the needy.

He was distributing token Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards at Nanjarayapatna in Somwarpet taluk based on a re-survey that was completed in Kodagu recently, a release said here on Friday.

It is the duty of Government officials to provide the poor basic facilities such as food, shelter and clothing.

The role of elected representatives assume significance in this regard, he said.

The Department of Food and Civil Supplies should look into the shady deals in the public distribution system, he said.

Mr. Jivjijaya urged Food Department officials to ask 'Stree shakti' groups to take up management of public distribution system (PDS) in the district.

Transparency

Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat K. Sundar Naik asked PDS managers to be maintain transparency in the system.

District Sakshara Samiti nodal officer Shankare Gowda spoke. Zilla Panchayat deputy secretary Ekantappa, Project Director Zulfiqar Ullah, Somwarpet tahsildar, Anil Vas, Food Department Deputy Director, Hombale Gowda and District Information officer Vinod Chandra were among those who were present.
