The Electronics City police have cracked the murder of Manish Nair, owner of a nursing home in Mico Layout, by arresting three of his friends.
Police said he was killed on suspicion that he was leaking information to a rival gang.
Police said Mr. Nair was picked up and brutally murdered by the trio on Sunday. They dumped his body on the outskirts of the city in Sidlaghatta, under Hoskote police station limits. Meanwhile, the Electronics City police picked up Srikantha, Rajesh and Saravana on the suspicion that they were planning a robbery. Under interrogation, they confessed that they were part of a local gang and had murdered their close friend Nair. They said one of the gang members, Tulasi, had murdered Manu, part of a rival gang, in 2011 and had been jailed. After coming out on bail, he planned to eliminate Gajendra, an eyewitness to the murder, who is also from the rival gang. There was suspicion that Mr. Nair, who knew about the plan, leaked the information to their rival gang.
The trio picked up Nair on the pretext of a casual meeting, and stabbed him to death.
A 13-year-old boy drowned in the presence of his playmates in Hulimavu on Thursday afternoon. Police said Vasanth, the son of daily wage labourers from Arekere, would accompany his parents to their workplace daily.
On Thursday, he got into a pool filled with rainwater near the construction site while his friends stood watching.
According to police, Vasanth did not surface from the pool after two minutes, and the other children raised an alarm. But it was too late.
