Minister for Health and Family Welfare Arvind Limbavali on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that the exact statistics on the number of persons afflicted by dengue and those who succumbed to it was withheld by officials during the tenure of his predecessor, triggering protests by the Opposition members.
This was in reply to Janata Dal (Secular) leader Bandeppa Kashempur query during during Question Hour. Mr. Limbavali was heckled by the Opposition for “not giving the correct number of persons” afflicted by dengue. N.A. Haris of the Congress demanded that action be taken against persons who were responsible for it.
Mr. Limbavali said 3,704 cases were reported during the last four years from government hospitals.
Adding to this the cases reported from private hospitals, the number would be 4,701 cases, he said.
He said 21 persons had died from the disease in the State, which was again disputed by Mr. Kashempur.
Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi said three persons had died from dengue in Gulbarga district.
