Madikeri: As many as 10 members, including a ruling party member, have sought a no-confidence motion against Virajpet taluk panchayat president Sarita Poonacha, according to information received here on Thursday.

The taluk panchayat members have submitted a letter to the Assistant Commissioner, seeking an emergency meeting to allow them to move the no-confidence motion.

The president had failed to consider all the members as part of a team, and carry out the functions of the president effectively, they alleged in the letter.

Ms. Poonacha, who belongs to the Congress, is the president of the 19-member body in which there are nine Congress members, eight BJP and two Janata Dal (S).

She had become president of the panchayat with the support of one Janata Dal (S) member.

One of the JD (S) members, Addanda C. Cariappa, has now switched loyalties to the BJP, reducing the Janata Dal (S) to one seat.

Sada Appachu, a former vice-president of the panchayat and a Congress member, has joined the BJP in supporting the no-confidence motion, taking the total number of those supporting the no-trust vote to ten.
