Senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary said here on Sunday that he was not interested in contesting the byelection to the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a programme he had organised at the Gokarnatheshwara Kshetra in Kudroli, Mr. Poojary said he would only contest elections only from Mangalore.

He said that he had spoken to senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes and had also made his position clear to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Taking a dig at the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa who had asked presspersons in Shimoga whether they did not watch porn films at home, Mr. Poojary said the BJP leader was justifying the actions of the party legislators who had not deemed it fit to apologise for their behaviour in the State Assembly.

Earlier, Mr. Poojary, along with other devotees, performed ‘urulu seve' on the temple premises. He said that ‘made snana' should be stopped and that if people wanted to perform ‘urulu seve', they should do it in a clean and hygienic manner.
