Shantaram Naik, Rajya Sabha MP from Goa, on Wednesday said that the Goa Government is yet to grant no objection certificate (NOC) to hand over two islands in Goa requested by the Indian Navy.

Mr. Naik told The Hindu from New Delhi that Minister for Defence A.K. Antony had informed him that the Indian Navy has made a request for handing over Grandi Island owned by a private party having an area of 5,28,575 sq m and Pikene Island comprising an area of 2,78,525 sq m owned by the Government. “This proposal has been made to address the security concerns related to aircraft operations from the Naval Air Station Dabolim,” Mr. Naik said quoting the Minister.
