BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday held that it will not be right to provide reservation for isolated posts.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph, and Justice R. Gururajan passed the order on an appeal by the State Government.

The State appealed against a single judge order of February 15, 2005. The single judge had directed the State to approve the post of a lecturer in history, though the post was reserved and the candidate was not from the reserved community. K. Govindappa was appointed lecturer of history in a junior college in Tumkur. The Government did not approve the appointment saying that the post was reserved for Scheduled Castes category. Mr. Govindappa challenged the Government order saying that it was wrong and reservation could not be done for isolated posts. A single judge had directed the Government to approve the appointment of Mr. Govindappa.
