‘Government studying minority panel’s report’

S.K. Bellubbi, Minister for APMC, Haj and Wakfs, has said that there is no plan before the State government to supersede the Karnataka State Board of Wakfs.

Mr. Bellubi told presspersons here on Sunday that the government was studying the report submitted by Anwar Manippady, chairman, Karnataka State Minorities Commission, on the encroachment of Wakf land in districts such as Bijapur, Bidar and Gulbarga.

The Minister said the government had completed surveying around 18,000 properties belonging to the Wakf Board. He said the government had granted Rs. 1 crore for the 79th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, while Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar had promised another Rs. 1 crore. The district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat had been complaining about the government not releasing funds even though less than a month is left for the event.

Donation

The government employees in the district would donate a day’s salary for the sammelan, which would come around Rs. 80 lakh.

“The eight MLAs of the district will give a month’s salary, which will be around Rs. 8 lakh,” he added.
