When the garbage crisis was at its peak, the BBMP, along with the Karnataka State Biofuel Board, decided to give an impetus to small biogas units by installing them in the homes of prominent citizens.

Sheetal, an official from the board, however, maintained that the ambitious scheme was in a limbo. “The list included some politicians, renowned business persons and celebrities. When I called them, none of them even gave me the time of day. The plan has now been put on the backburner.” She had a biogas unit installed at her house around 10 years ago and has not been using LPG since then. The installation of the unit for small households will cost between Rs. 15,000 and Rs.35,000, she added.
