The Government has not awarded the Uranium Corporation of India a contract or licence to survey 39.13 acres of land in Gogi village of Shahpur taluk , said Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya on Tuesday.

Reading out a statement by the Chief Minister to an issue raised by Manohara Maski referring to a media report, Dr. Acharya said Ms. Uranium Corporation of India had applied to Ministry of Mines to set up 500 TPD uranium mine and uranium processing unit and the Karnataka Pollution Control Board had conducted a public hearing on November 16, 2010.

However, the company had not started mining of uranium, but had conducted tests on the availability of uranium deposits. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board would take steps to safeguard the interests of the people, he said.

Lock-up death

Making a statement on the lock-up death in Nelogi police station in Gulbarga district, he said officials concerned had been suspended and Additional Superintendent of Police Gulbarga B.V. Yellappa had been directed to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the incident. Suitable action would be initiated after the inquiry.

Minister for Public Works C.M. Udasi said the State Government had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Surface Transport to upgrade 19 State Highways into National Highways.
