A child was killed after he was knocked down by a car in ISRO Layout on Sunday evening. The deceased Keerthi (9), a resident of Vasanthpura, had gone with a friend to a house where his mother works as a domestic help. They were returning home when the car, being parked in the garage, hit Keerthi.

He was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead. Keerthi, the youngest of four siblings, had gone to check where his mother was as she had not returned home at the usual time.

The Kumaraswamy Layout traffic police arrested the car driver Shivappa (62) and registered a case of causing death by negligence.

Drunken driver arrested

A car driver was arrested after he allegedly rammed into two autorickshaws, a car and a two-wheeler parked in a residential area in Peenya late on Saturday night.

No one was injured in the mishap.

The accused, Mahesh Kumar (32) from Tumkur, employed with a private transport company in Yeshwanthpur, was allegedly in an inebriated state. Police officials suspect that Mahesh had stepped on the accelerator accidentally as he was trying to park the vehicle.

Residents who heard the noise out on the road, alerted the Peenya police who rushed to the spot and arrested the driver. A case has been registered.

Chain snatching

Two motorcyclists snatched the gold chain of a 58-year-old woman who was praying at a Hanuman temple in Ashok Nagar on Saturday.

The victim, Padmavati, was caught unawares as she was praying.
