Nine-day Mysore Book Fair gets under way

Books ranging from works of fiction to social sciences are available

MYSORE: Books ranging from works of fiction to social sciences are on sale at the Mysore Book Fair, a nine-day exhibition organised by the National Book Trust (NBT), New Delhi.

The fair began on Saturday at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore V.G. Talawar inaugurated the fair, which is supported by the Karnataka Book Authority, Bangalore, and the Karnataka Exhibition Authority, Mysore. About 55 publishers have put up nearly 80 stalls displaying books in several languages.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Talawar said the fair was an opportunity for educational institutions to improve their library collections. He said that people should cultivate the reading habit .

Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) Director Rajesh Sachdeva presided over the function. Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman B.P. Manjunath and NBT Deputy Director Vijay Pal were present.

The fair will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
