Tombs repaired immediately; untoward incidents prevented
HASSAN: Miscreants damaged nine tombs at a Catholic cemetery on Salagame Road in Hassan on Thursday. They also removed six crosses fixed to the tombstones. However, police prevented any untoward incident.
Superintendent of Police Panduranga Rane and Additional Superintendent of Police Thammaiah visited the cemetery and got the damaged tombs repaired.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rudrappa, giving details, said the team found the tombs damaged on Thursday. He suspected it to be the work of mentally unstable people.
The tomb of a 13-year-old boy who was buried 10 days ago was dug to a depth of two feet. In the remaining eight tombs, crosses fixed to the tombs were removed and damaged. There is a watchman in the cemetery during the day but there is no one at night. It is suspected that the tombs were damaged after the watchman left.
Father Cyriac of the Catholic Church, who visited the cemetery in the morning, lodged a complaint with the Pension Mohalla Police Station.
