The district unit of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) on Monday sought action against a doctor for alleged negligence which resulted in the death of the mother of a newborn.

Prakash Biradar, who is working at the Primary Health Centre at Tallur of Saundatti taluk, is under the scanner. NFIW members staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum, expressing concern over the failure of District Health authorities in acting against the doctor.

They said Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader had assured a delegation of activists of the city-based Bhrastachar Nirmulan Pariwar (BNP) and other social organisations that he would order an inquiry into the incident, which occurred on November 21.

NFIW district president Pramoda Hazare and BNP president Sujit Mulgund led the protest.
