BANGALORE: A newly married woman, who was allegedly tortured for more dowry by her husband and in-laws, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Subramanyanagar police station limits on Thursday night.
The police said Veena (27) hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Gayathrinagar.
She had married Kumar, a clerk in a city court, four months ago.
Veena's father, Thimme Gowda of Gubbi taluk in Tumkur district, has lodged a complaint with the police that his daughter ended her life as her husband and in-laws tortured her for more dowry. The Subramanyanagar police have registered a case.
Huge quantities of fruits and a colour television set were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a fruit warehouse in Yeshwanthpur police station limits on Friday.
The police said two fire tenders put out the fire that was noticed around 12.30 p.m. at the godown situated on 19th Cross, Muniswamappa Garden. Apples, papaya and sweet lime were stored there. The Yeshwanthapur police have registered a case.
An unidentified man aged around 55 was killed after he was hit by a lorry on Kanakapura Road, off Vajarahalli, on the outskirts of the city around 8 a.m. on Friday.
The body has been kept at the Victoria Hospital mortuary.

The Madivala police have arrested five people on charges of robbery and recovered from them two motorcycles and gold ornaments, all worth Rs. 1 lakh.
The police gave the names of the arrested as Rama (21), Ramesh (19), Babu (22), Ashok (20) and Sreenivasa (19), all residents of Bannerghatta Road.
