The putrefied bodies of two newborns, a boy and a girl, were found dumped in a garbage pile near the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quarters in Ejipura here on Monday morning.
The babies, who appeared to have died a few days ago, were found wrapped in cloth by the 80 ft Road at the entrance of the quarters, Adugodi police said. Workers who came to clear the garbage called the police.
“Only after the post-mortem is conducted — the report may take about three days — can we tell if they were twins and if they died of natural causes or if it was infanticide,” according to the Adugodi police.
The police said that they were checking nearby hospitals for any records of stillborn births in the last few days.
“It is likely that the bodies were disposed of at the spot some time during the night,” the police said.
