MYSORE: The birth of a lion cub cheered up the animal lovers who frequent Mysore zoo as Manini gave birth to a little one that was named Darshan. Manini is about eight years old and was brought from the Nandankanan National Park in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, in October 2002 under the Zoo Exchange programme.

Executive director of Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens Ranga Rao said the lioness delivered a cub on October 5, 2003, but it did not survive. The second litter of three cubs delivered on April 1, 2004 were doing well and were housed in the zoo.

Darshan was born on July 24 and both the lioness and the cub are in good health.
