Minister seeks plan for relief work

Vacant posts of tahsildar to be filled soon

Eight flood-prone villages to be shifted

DHARWAD: Revenue Minister Karunakar Reddy has said that the State Government is planning to set up “Nemmadi” centres at the gram panchayat level.

He was addressing presspersons here on Tuesday after presiding over a review meeting of the revenue divisions of the Belgaum region.

The Minister said that apart from issuing land records, 32 other documents through these centres could be issued. Steps were being taken to fill the vacant posts of village accountant and tahsildar in the State.

Mr. Karunakar Reddy said that steps were being taken to shift flood-prone villages. Eight villages in Gadag district, two in Dharwad district, six in Belgaum district and 12 villages in Bagalkot district would be shifted to safe places.

New taluks

On the creation of new taluks, he said that a committee formed in this regard had been given six months to submit its report.

Further action would be taken based on it. Permission had been given to purchase 19 vehicles for the Belgaum region and funds would be released to repair revenue offices.

Earlier, chairing the review meeting, Mr. Reddy directed the officials to prepare an action plan for taking up drought relief work in Belgaum, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttar Kannada districts, which were experiencing dry spell.

Underscoring the need for issuing foolproof documents to the people under the “Bhoomi” scheme, he said since the land records were crucial for any person, the officials should be careful while issuing them.

Mr. Reddy asked the tahsildars to hold meetings of village accountants every month and submit reports to the Deputy Commissioner.

The Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, said that regional-level review meetings were being held to speed up the administrative machinery.

Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad briefed about the development of revenue districts.

Deputy Commissioners of seven districts, 15 assistant commissioners, tahsildars and revenue officials were present.
