Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike councillor Padmanabha Reddy (JD-Secular) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday amid protests and vandalism by party workers who strongly opposed his crossover to the BJP.
When Mr. Reddy was at the BJP office, party workers from Sarvagnanagar Assembly Constituency rushed in and urged party leaders not to include him in the party fold. They shouted slogans against him and vandalised a portion of the office.
The angry protesters even came to blows with Mr. Reddy’s supporters. The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control. He was inducted into the party only after the protesters left the venue.
According to sources, two leaders, including a corporator from Sarvagnanagar segment itself, are upset over Mr. Padmanabha Reddy’s inclusion as they view him as an aspirant for the Assembly seat.
