Some industries here have been hit after a number of security personnel from the northeastern States left the district following rumours of violence targeting them in the last week.

Industrial units in the Naubad and Kolar industrial areas faced a sudden manpower shortage after employees from the northeastern States began to leave from Wednesday.

“No one took it seriously at first. They thought they were going back for the festive season and would return soon. Industry managers understood the issue fully only after media reports came out on Thursday afternoon,” said S.V. Reddy who runs a unit in the Naubad industrial area. “The problem is not as serious as in the metros, but we have felt it to a small extent,” he said. However, police insist that students from the northeast in engineering and nursing colleges have not left.
