Office-bearers of various district units of the Nationalist Congress Party in north Karnataka have resigned. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Dharwad district unit president Irappa Emmi, Raichur district unit president M. Yesuraj and State youth wing general secretary Baseer Ahmed Sheikh said they were hurt by the irresponsible statements made by senior party leader R.R. Patil and some other NCP leaders against the State. They said they had submitted resignation letters to the State president of the party on April 9.

Mr. Emmi said the recent statement by Mr. Patil in Belgaum, which was aimed at dividing Kannada- and Marathi-speaking people, had displeased them. He said 10 office-bearers including district and taluk presidents had resigned and their followers would also distance themselves from the party.
