Cadets to cover 18 districts, Goa

MADIKERI: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has always symbolised the spirit of adventurism. Carrying on the tradition, 12 cadets from Kushalnagar Polytechnic, including two women, set out on a 2400-km motorcycle expedition from here on Monday morning.

The team led by Ivan D'Silva was flagged off by Lt. Col. Akhil Sah, Commanding Officer of the 19 Karnataka Battalion NCC, at the private bus stand. Dressed in army fatigue, the cadets zoomed off on their motorcycles to cover 18 districts in the State and Goa to spread awareness on the importance of sanitation, AIDS and its prevention and the need to maintain cleanliness.

They enacted a skit at the private bus stand here just before they left, attracting the morning crowd. The cadets will interact with people wherever they stop and stage street plays, give talks and use audio-visual presentations to spread the message, Capt. D'Silva said.

The team will cover Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kolar, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Bellary, Raichur, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Hubli, Belgaum, Londa and Panaji in Goa, Karwar and Udupi. The expedition will culminate in Mangalore on January 25.

Col. Sah, who spoke, wished the team well.
