A five-day 17{+t}{+h}National Youth Festival (Rashtriya Yuvajanotsava) sponsored by the Union and State governments will be held here from January 12. President Pratibha Patil will be invited to inaugurate it, an official release said.

The release quoting Thanglemlian, Deputy Secretary, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, said that the President would give away the national youth awards to 25 persons and one youth organisation on the occasion. The best national youth organisation award will carry a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and the prize money of the individual award will carry Rs. 40,000 each.

There will be competitions in dance, vocal, and instrumental music.

The categories for dance will be Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kuchupudi, Manipuri, and Kathak.

In addition there will be competition in playing mrudanga, flute, veena, sitar, tabla, harmonium and guitar. There will be competitions in carnatic and Hindustani vocal and folk dances.

Inaugural function will be held at the Mangala Stadium where participants from 28 states and seven Union territories march to the stadium in their traditional attire.
