Rally taken out to create awareness on disaster management

DHARWAD: Dharwad District Home Guards and Fire Brigade jointly observed National Disaster Reduction Day here on Wednesday.

The programmes organised as part of the day began with a rally aimed creating awareness on disaster management and reduction. Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Mallapur flagged off the rally.

Apart from Home Guards and Fire and Emergency Services personnel, NCC girl cadets, police personnel, Bharat Seva Dal, Scouts and Guides and NSS volunteers participated in the awareness rally, which passed through thoroughfares of the city before concluding at R.N. Shetty stadium.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel and Home Guards presented mock drill on the rescue operations during various instances of disaster and calamity. Station Director of Dharwad Akashvani C.U. Bellakki lauded the services of the Home Guards and fire force personnel during times of natural calamities and mishaps.

Chief Fire Officer N.R. Markandeya and others participated in the programme during which prizes were given away to students who had won prizes in essay and painting competitions held as part of National Disaster Reduction Day. Home Guards Commandant S.M. Tungashetty presided over the function.
