An interesting feature about the Assembly seat aspirants from all the six segments in Kolar district is that many of them have the same name, the only difference being their initials.
Take for instance the Srinivaspur Assembly constituency from where of the 10 candidates two have the same name. While G.K. Venkatashiva Reddy is the nominee of Janata Dal (Secular), P.C. Venkatashiva Reddy is an Independent. From Mulbagal (SC) constituency, N. Srinivas and V. Srinivas are contesting as Independents, and Y. Srinivasan Patapat is the BJP nominee.
For Kolar Gold Fields (SC) seat, sitting MLA Y. Sampangi’s mother, Y. Ramakka, is contesting on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
And, there is an Independent candidate who is also called Ramakka.
In Bangarpet (SC) segment, both the nominees of national parties bear the same name. Sitting MLA M. Narayanaswamy is seeking re-election on BJP ticket while K.M. Narayanaswamy is the Congress nominee here.
And, in Kolar constituency, there are five persons with two similar names. Minister for Textiles R. Varthur Prakash and N. Prakash aka Begli Prakash are in the field as Independent candidates. The former Minister K. Srinivasa Gowda is JD (S) candidate while K.S. Srinivasa Gowda is an Independent. In addition, there is yet another Srinivas who is contesting the Assembly poll as an Independent.
In Malur constituency, where the BJP has been deprived of fielding its candidate as its nominee declined to file papers since his mentor, S.N. Krishnaiah Setty, was denied party ticket, three persons with the same name with different initials are in the fray.
All the three, i.e., Krishnaiah Setty S.R., Krishnaiah Setty S.N., and Krishnaiah Setty H.M. are Independent candidates.
