MANGALORE: A week after electrical engineer Sarang Mohammad Naeem (39) was kidnapped in the Herat province of Afghanistan, his family at Gurukambla here is living with increasing sense of desperation. Their official source of information, according to his father, Mohammad Hussain Sarang, is their son’s employers, the Dubai-based HEB International Logistics and the Indian Embassy at Kabul.

A sense of frustration was evident in the voice of Mr. Hussain when he was asked if the family had heard something more about Mr. Naeem. “Abhi uske baare mein koi khabar nahin hai,” Mr. Hussain said.

“The company, which is in regular touch with his captors, spoke to us an hour back and promised us that they were doing everything in their power to secure his safe and early release,” Mr. Hussain added.

. Observing that the family members were downcast with the turn of events in their life, Mr. Hussain noted that the only ray of hope was the constant feedback that they were getting from the Indian Embassy officials.

“They have informed us that there is no threat to his life, and that he is well,” Mr. Hussain added.
