Carnatic music lovers in Hubli will get an opportunity to see N. Ganesh of Coimbatore give a concert of santoor in Hubli on Saturday.
Organised by Gana Sudha, the concert will be held at Maharashtra Mandal on Club Road in Hubli at 6.15 p.m. D. Rajakumar Iyer will accompany him on Mridangam, according to a press release from Latha Jamakhandi of Gana Sudha.
Mr. Ganesh, born in Palakkad, started learning Mridangam at the age of six from Palakad Subba Iyer, harmonium from Singanallur Radhakrishna and other gurus.
He developed interest in Santoor and learnt it from music director Mandolin Raju.
He was trained under Ustad Mohammed Hussein of Pune in santoor.
Mr. Ganesh, then for the first time, started experimenting with santoor, which is basically Hindustani musical instrument.
With some modifications, he adopted santoor for carnatic music and mastered it. He has so far given over 600 concerts across India on santoor and has received several awards from various institutions.
