Pass percentage is 54.59

The district slid two places and ranked 14th in the State in the II PU examination results, which were announced on Wednesday. Mysore stood 12th in the overall rankings last year.

Of the 31,934 students who appeared for the examination in the district, 15,517 cleared it and the pass percentage was 54.59.

Girls outclassed boys in the district: 7,273 out of 17,407 boys cleared the exam with a pass percentage of 41.78 and 8,244 of the 14,527 girls emerged successful with a pass percentage of 56.75.

Science and Commerce students fared better than Arts students.

Of the 8,587 students of Science stream who appeared for the exam, 4,894 cleared it, the pass percentage being 56.99.

In Commerce, 4,586 of the 7,953 students cleared the examination, with the pass percentage being 57.66. A total of 6,037 of the 15,394 students cleared the examination, bringing the pass percentage in the Arts stream to 39.22.

Rural-urban gap

The rural-urban divide in the students' performance, which was conspicuous for many years, is narrowing, and urban students have fared only marginally better. Of the 26,648 urban students, 13,274 were successful. Of the 5,286 students at rural centres, 2,243 cleared the examination .

Among the students were 6,222 repeaters, 1,251 of whom were successful while there were 1,806 private students, 383 of whom passed.

In all, there are 191 pre-university colleges in the district, of which 68 are government pre-university colleges, 28 aided institutions and 95 unaided institutions.
