Bakrid, one of the important festivals of the Muslim community, was celebrated in Dharwad and Belgaum districts on Monday.

A large number of people offered prayers at the Idga grounds in Gulgunjikoppa in Dharwad and the Idga Maidan near Rani Chennamma Circle in Hubli. Maulvis called upon the Muslims to be the messengers of peace, prosperity and brotherhood.

Additional security arrangements had been made in the twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad to ensure that no untoward incident took place during the festival.

Throughout the district, members of the Muslim community exchanged sweets.

The market areas wore a festive look and witnessed brisk business as the members of the Muslim community went on a shopping spree.
