Vocalists Prabhakar Kashyap and Diwakar Kashyap of Nasik popularly known as “Kashyap Bandhu” and vocalist Shivani Haldipur (Kallianpur) will perform in the “Indian Music Festival” organised in memory of vocalist Sharada B. Shirur.
President of Hubli Art Circle Vikram Shirur, secretary Baburao Hangal and founder-president of Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation told presspersons here on Thursday that the music festival would mark the third death anniversary of Sharada Shirur to be held at the Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubli on Sunday at 5.30 p.m.
Mr. Shirur said the Miven Mayfran Conveyors Limited had sponsored the event. The company would be sponsoring the event every year from no onwards, he said. He said the Art Circle intended to provide a platform to young musicians and upcoming artistes through such programmes. It was also planning to conduct music programmes on a regular basis.
He said Sharada B. Shirur, who was trained by Pt. Karamkar and later Pandit Shankarrao Dixit Jantli, an exponent of the Gwalior Gharana of Hindustani music, was a graded artiste of All India Radio. She had regularly performed at various music festivals, including the annual musical festival held in memory of Sawai Gandharva in Kundgol. Manoj Hangal said that Shivani Haldipur was an upcoming artiste who had performed at several music festivals. She was training under Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, an exponent of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana.
Born into a family of musicians, Prabhakar and Diwakar received initial music training from their parents, Ramprakash Mishra and Meera Mishra. Subsequently, they were trained by the doyens of Banaras Gharana Pt. Rajan Mishra and Pt. Sajan Mishra. Being graded artistes of All India Radio, the “Kashyap Bandhu” have won several awards, he said.
