MANGALORE: Preparations are under way for "Mukkham Urus" which will begin from March 2 at Yemmemadu, a pilgrimage centre for Muslims in Kodagu district.
Religious programmes such as "khatam dua", mass prayer, "zikr halka" will be organised on the premises of the picturesque Yemmemadu Dargah, Hamza Musliar, vice-president of the Yemmemadu Jamath, told presspersons here.
The dargah was the final resting place of eminent religious persons Soofi Shaheed from Egypt and Assayed Hasan Sakaf Al-Halrami, both of whom commanded respect, awe and reverence from the local populace, he said.
Mr. Hamza said more than one lakh people were expected to come to Yemmemadu during the eight-day urus. People irrespective of their caste, creed or religious beliefs participated in the event. The stream of visitors to the dargah was increasing each year, he added. The dargah committee had made special arrangements for women to pray at a separate place near the venue of the urus, he added. K. Mohammad, president of the Jamath, will inaugurate the urus.
