The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), in its continued land reclamation drive, cleared encroachments on 15 acres of land on Thursday.

MUDA launched the operation in the early hours. Around 100 gangmen with the help of excavators moved into the area and removed the encroachments.

The land is located near the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Jayanagar.

Vegetables had been cultivated on the plot and two concrete structures, a pucca house and a temple, had been constructed on the land.

Police protection

MUDA had sought police protection to ensure that there were no untoward incidents.

Thursday's operation comes close on the heels of the drive on Saturday when MUDA cleared encroachments on government land valued at a total of Rs. 6 crore at Bogadi.

Encroachments were cleared on 4.5 acres of land that was allocated for the CFTRI Housing Cooperative Society and on 1.18 acres of land that was allotted for the Excise Department.

The authorities have taken serious note of encroachments on government land.

Warned

Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has repeatedly warned the public against encroaching upon government land and has also directed Revenue officials to crack down on such cases and reclaim the land.
