The Dharwad Regional Science Centre (DRSC) and the Academy of Science, Dharwad, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at a function on the DRSC premises here on Monday.

Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University H.B. Walikar said the MoU facilitates holding several science-related programmes catering to the needs of children, youth and the public. He said the DRSC and the academy would jointly hold practical shows once a week or month to attract students towards science. The DRSC has plans to bring out a science book too, he said.

Prof. Walikar called upon the teachers to kindle curiosity about science among students and encourage them to take up scientific research as a career option. The former Vice-Chancellor of the university J.H. Kulkarni said the aim of the MoU was to popularise science and enhance scientific knowledge among students. The academy would tour schools and colleges and hold science-related programmes, he said.

Prof. Kulkarni urged students to make use of the DRSC unit on the university campus.

A talk on ‘Earthquake and its impact’ was delivered on the occasion.
