A postgraduate student of Bangalore Medical College was caught on the wrong foot when he hurled his slipper at an IAS officer during a meeting with Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas after he was told the allowance he sought was meant only for government doctors.
The incident occurred in Mr. Ramdas’s chamber in Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday evening when the student, Yatish, and others sought to press Mr. Ramdas to extend the non-practising allowance to the postgraduate medical students.
K.V. Prabhakar, Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, who attended the meeting, clarified it was meant only for doctors working in government hospitals. However, Dr. Yatish turned adamant and started demanding that the Minister sanction him the allowance.
After discussions, the panel rejected his request following which an incensed Dr. Yatish hurled his slipper at Mr. Prabhakar, leaving the Minister and his officials aghast.
The others overpowered Dr. Yatish and called the security and the Vidhana Soudha police arrested him.
According to the sources, earlier also he had tried to attack senior officials of the Medical Education Department over the same issue.
