Expresses concern over more areas being affected by erosion
MANGALORE: "Building a seawall is not the answer to sea erosion. Breakwaters are more scientific and have proved effective worldwide. The same should be implemented at various sea erosion sites across the country," National Administrative Reforms Commission chairman M. Veerappa Moily has said.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday after visiting various erosion-prone areas, the former Chief Minister said the Administrative Reforms Commission also had disaster management on its agenda.
He said erosion at Ullal and Kotepura had advanced into Subhashnagar, Mogaveerapatna and Hilarynagar. The sea had engulfed about 400 metres of the beach. He said he would speak to the Chief Minister and to the secretaries concerned in the Union Government to take up work on constructing breakwaters at Kotepura.
