Bidar: The development of Hyderabad Karnataka in general and Bidar in particular would remain his priorities, MLC and Congress leader Quazi Arshad Ali said on Friday.
He was speaking to The Hindu after his victory in Thursday's polls. He has already completed a 20-month term in the Upper House.
"Bidar is one of the most backward districts in the country and Hyderabad Karnataka is among the most backward regions in Asia. Re-election to the Upper House has given me an opportunity to work for the development of my district and region," Mr Ali said.
Mr. Ali is the Editor of the Hindi daily Bidar Ki Awaaz and the Urdu daily Surkh Zameen.
Mr. Ali said that he would focus on issues such as construction of the government medical college in Bidar, a separate cooperative milk union for Bidar district, providing civil aviation facility at the Bidar Air Force base, repair and re-laying of major roads in the district, tourism promotion, inclusion of Bidar in the National Horticulture Mission and speedy completion of the Bidar-Gulbarga railway line.
He said that he would work towards setting up a district development forum, consisting of all current and retired people's representatives in Bidar. This would act as a political pressure group to urge the State and Union Government to take up development and welfare programmes in the district. This would remain a non-political organisation, he added.
