H.K. Javare Gowda, the former MP, has called upon elected representatives to relinquish their positions in the Assembly and Parliament to pressure the Centre to be fair with the State with regard to the Cauvery issue. “The Supreme Court’s verdict has come as shock to the State. The State cannot release water as per the court’s order,” Mr. Javare Gowda said at a press conference in Hassan on Thursday.
Mr. Javare Gowda said all the elected representatives should resign and stage a dharna seeking justice for farmers and people of Karnataka. “We have to struggle for our rights. Let this situation lead to a mutually agreeable distress sharing formula”, he said. He urged the State government to request the Supreme Court to depute a judge to visit both the States to study the ground reality before giving its verdict.
“So far we have been getting reports of water level and storage in reservoirs of Karnataka. However, we have little information about Tamil Nadu reservoirs. I have a feeling that the neighbouring State is not sharing actual statistics with others. Let the judiciary collect first-hand information and announce its judgment”, Mr. Javare Gowda said.
