Bhadravati MLA B.K. Sangameshwar has demanded transfer of tahsildar Abhijin for allegedly misbehaving with the elected representatives.

He told presspersons at Bhadravati on Tuesday that a protest would be staged demanding transfer of tahsildar Abhijin. “Being an elected representative, I have every right to question the discrepancies in the voters' list for APMC election. However, the tahsildar insulted me with his arrogance,” he said.

Meanwhile, the district unit of Karnataka State Government Employees' Association has accused the MLA of trying to interfere in the functioning of government officials.

The voters' list for APMC election had been published much in advance. It was impossible to add the missing names to the list on the day of election.

Tahsildar tried to convince the MLA about the rules. However, Mr. Sangameshwar was not in a mood to listen and instigated his supporters to assault the tahsildar, the association said.

In a release, association district unit president Raghuram Devadiga has demanded legal action against Mr. Sangameshwar and his supporters for preventing a government official from discharging his duty.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta has said that Mr. Sangameshwar and Mr. Abhijin had registered complaints against each other.

The police would probe the incident, he said.
