Yelburga MLA Basavaraja Rayareddy has demanded a public apology from Bharatiya Janata Party leader K.S. Eshwarappa for his remarks on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Pakistan continued to kill our soldiers along the border, the Prime Minister opted not to take any action, Mr. Eshwarappa had said at the executive committee meeting organised by district BJP youth wing on Monday, in context to the clashes along the India-Pakistan border.

“Using offensive language against the respectable Prime Minister is highly unfair and condemnable. Mr. Eshwarappa does not know history and culture. Leaders who make such comments should be banned,” Mr. Rayareddy said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said dedicated Congress leaders Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi had laid down their lives fighting terrorism and extremist activities. He questioned as to how many BJP leaders had sacrificed their lives for the country, and told the former Deputy Chief Minister to have control over his words.

Mr. Rayareddy alleged that BJP leaders in the State were making desperate efforts to draw huge crowds for the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally to be held on November 17.

“The BJP leaders know that people won’t attend the rally on their own as they had lost faith in the party. They were making desperate attempts by touring the districts,” he said.
