The 28-year-old domestic help who went missing after she was picked up by the Vidyaranyapura police for questioning in a theft case, was finally traced after a month at her relative’s house in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Devi was reunited with her family here on Saturday.

The police said they were able to trace her based on a phone call she made to her family.

Ms. Devi had been picked up on June 12 for questioning after her employer accused her of stealing saris, and was missing since then. Her parents and brother were detained by the police on July 2, and allegedly tortured.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sandeep Patil said: “As she is under distress, we decided to hand her over to the parents for now. We will wait before continuing our investigations into the theft case.”
