Members of the district units of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene on Monday took out a rally and staged dharna at the Onake Obavva Circle here in protest against alleged derogatory statements by Horticulture Minister S.A. Ravindranath.

They said that it was unbecoming of a Minister to state that farmers were leaving villages to have fun in cities.

As a Minister, he was supposed to address the problems of farmers, who were facing hardship owing to failure of rain for two consecutive years. “Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar should ask Mr. Ravindranath to step down from his post for making such statements,” they said.

They claimed that the primary health centre here lacked basic amenities and urged the district administration to address the problem. The agitation was led by Bagenal Kottrabasappa, Bedreddyhalli Basavareddy, Tipperudraswamy and Malige Shivannareddy.
