Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) H.K. Patil called upon stakeholders to join hands with his Department in ensuring every household in rural Karnataka had a toilet.

Speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed ‘Seva Sadan’, to facilitate spinning and weaving activities at Dharwad on Sunday, he said the State government has launched a campaign to this purpose. Any government initiative would succeed only with the support of the citizens, he said.The government’s initiative to ensure a toilet in every household would help overcome health problems in rural areas, he said.

Mr. Patil said the department’s decision to get the national flag hoisted atop all gram panchayats, taluk and zilla panchayats had received a positive response and the initial reluctance to comply had died down. He also said the government would tag Khadi-related work to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme to boost Khadi activities.

Veteran Congress leader and former MP Hanumanthappa hailed the State government’s initiative in promoting Khadi. Seva Sadan has come up at Hosayallapur in Dharwad with financial assistance from MPs and legislators under the local area development fund provided to Dharwad Taluka Khadi Seva Kendra..
