SHIMOGA: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said on Sunday that the Government would release funds to the Sagar Town Municipal Council (TMC) to take up drainage work and a drinking water scheme.

Speaking at a function organised to felicitate him by the town municipal council at Sagar, he said the Government would give special attention for the industrial development in the district. "To facilitate it, an airport will be developed at Sogane near Shimoga," he added.

Mr. Yediyurappa laid the foundation stone for the compound of a solid waste management unit to be constructed at Sangal.

TMC president Sabira Yusuf, who presided over the function, sought Rs. 5 crore to implement various works in the town.

Councillor T.N. Srinivas appealed to the Government to allow regularisation of 414 houses.

M. Nagaraj proposed a vote of thanks.

Earlier, speaking at a function at Shikaripur, Mr. Yediyurappa said funds would be released soon for the comprehensive development of Udugani, the birthplace of Akka Mahadevi.

He said the Government was committed to implementing the suggestions made by religious leaders for the welfare of society. It had earmarked funds for the development of places of religious importance, he added.
