More concentration on milk production in Uttara Kannada will pave the way for a milk union under the Karnataka Milk Federation in Uttara Kannada district.
At present, 24,000 litres of milk is being produced in the district, said Uttara Kannada District In-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri. He was inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Dharanendrappa Padmappa Alur Government Veterinary Hospital here on Saturday.
The Government has sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh towards the development of the hospital. More grants would be sanctioned for development works if a blueprint of the work was submitted to the Government, he said. There was a need to develop varieties of hybrid grass as fodder for cattle. Subsidies were provided to grass-cutter machines, auto-milking machines, and so on, he said.
Mr. Kageri lauded late Dharanendrappa for donating two acres of his land to the Veterinary Hospital.
