Children’s Rights in Goa (CRG), a children’s rights initiative in collaboration with Shri Dev Bodgeshwar Saunsthan will hold a “Bal Mela” titled “Bal Sabha, Burgeancho Adhikar” on Tuesday at Shri Dev Bodgeshwar Saunsthan hall, Mapusa in north Goa.

“The aim of this year’s mela is to provide the children a platform where they can express their opinions about the role of the Bal Gram Sabhas to be constituted in the village and municipal level under the Goa Children’s Act,” said Venicia Cardozo of CRG on Thursday.

Minister for Women and Child Development Dilip Parulekar will be the chief guest for the valedictory function. The programme will be inaugurated by Samira Kazi, Chairperson, Goa State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights. Sunil Masurkar, Director, Directorate of Women and Child Development, and Narayan R. Sawant, Director, Directorate of Panchayat, will be the special guests. The children will get an opportunity to interact with the Minister and putforth their views on the formation of Village and City Child Committees in each and every village and city of Goa.

The CRG would hold various inter-school competitions such as Mock Bal Gram Sabha, letter writing, chart making, and slogan writing on the occasion.

An article writing competition is being organised for the teachers on the topic “Bal Sabha, Burgeancho Adhikar - Role of Teachers”.

This mela is organised annually by the CRG.
