He was depressed, say police; it happened at his residence

Anjaneya Reddy (40), Medical Officer of Chickaballapur taluk, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence at BEML Layout near Basaveshwar Nagar here on Saturday night.

The incident came to light on Sunday after his wife and son returned from their native.

Dr. Reddy's family sources claimed that the doctor was under work-related pressure.

Basaveshwar Nagar police, who are investigating the case, said that they have found out that the doctor was depressed. They, however, said that they are yet to ascertain the reason for his act.

Dr. Reddy was working in Chickaballapur for the past few months and was staying with his wife Dr. Vasanthi and son Adithya in Chickaballapur. Dr. Vasanthi and Adithya were in Kolar when the incident happened. They returned at around 3.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Dr. Vasanthi reportedly told the police that she could not reach her husband on the mobile phone on Saturday night. Worried, she called neighbours to check on her husband. The neighbours found the door locked.

Later, Dr. Vasanthi and Adithya rushed back and opened the door with the duplicate keys to find him hanging from the ceiling fan.

The Basaveshwar Nagar police told The Hindu that the doctor was under stress and hardly spoke to his family members.

He added that his financial condition was not good.

“The door was locked and it was opened in front of residents. So there is no question of foul play. It is indeed a case of suicide. We are still investigating why Mr. Reddy took the extreme step,” the police said. The post-mortem report is awaited.
